Substance Abuse Treatment

There are numerous reasons underlying the abuse of such substances as alcohol and drugs.  For the most part, it stems from a variety of emotional and mental aspects of a person’s lifestyle.  It is critical for a Substance Abuse Treatment facility to understand the main psychological aspects behind the individual’s addiction.  Depression is the major cause of substance abuse (and alcoholism) and studies have proven that it is twice as common among women as it is among men.

Most substance abuse treatment centers only focus on the physical and psychological consequences involved with substance abuse and addiction.  However, the emotional and mental consequences need to be considered and addressed as well.  If you look at the holistic approach to treating and recovering from drug addiction, it becomes apparent as to why all of these aspects need to be addressed.

As was mentioned above, substance abuse and addiction typically results from the onset of depression, therefore it is extremely important that family members and loved ones look for the warning signs that point to a problem.  Some are emotional warning signs and include:

  • Constant fatigue
  • Feeling worthless
  • Guilt and/or worry
  • Inability to concentrate
  • No motivation
  • Thoughts about suicide

Additionally, there are the physical warning signs inclusive of:

  • Abnormal energy levels
  • Crying spells or hysterical outbreaks for no apparent reason
  • Frequency of headaches
  • Insomnia and restlessness
  • Lack of appetite
  • Unexplained physical pain

Unfortunately, substance abuse treatment centers tend to focus on the more conventional or traditional forms of treatment and recovery without ever addressing the actual cause of the abuse and addiction.  This is why the emotional and mental consequences of substance abuse and addiction should be considered just as critical as the physical consequences.  As a result of this, our facility has witnessed one of the highest success rates of recovery in the US amongst our clients compared to those traditional facilities.

Where the traditional centers, which normally employ conventional methods (such as the standard 12-Step program or the Minnesota Model as it is sometimes referred to) are concerned, they try to educate their clients from a physical and psychological standpoint. Conversely we focus on alternative methods and therapies that address those three critical levels of addiction – the emotional, the mental, and the physical.  In so doing, we witness a much higher success rate of recovery compared to the 20% success rates (at best) that the traditional facility encounters.

These alternative therapies and techniques enable the client to look within themselves, discover those facets of their lifestyle that are blocking their life’s true path, and discard them so that they can return to society as both contributing and productive individuals.  In this manner, the client is enabled the proper form of treatment that best suits their needs and recovers so that they remain clean and sober long after there substance abuse treatment and recovery program is completed.
