Does Chapman House Accept Blue Shield Insurance?

At Chapman House, we're proud to accept Blue Shield insurance, and we're excited to get to know you and provide you with the treatment you need to overcome substance use disorders. We know the cost of treatment can be a barrier for some people who want to get help with addiction, and we're happy that your Blue Cross Blue Shield substance abuse coverage can make it easier for you to get the help that you need to get well.

We know that reaching out for help can be scary, and we're here to support you as you learn more about your detox, outpatient, and residential treatment options. Here, we'll cover everything you need to know about how your insurance will work with drug and alcohol treatment, the different levels of treatment that you'll need to consider as you begin the process of getting sober, and how to lower your stress levels by learning more about what you'll need to cover as far as out of pocket costs for your drug and alcohol rehab treatment.

What Does In Network Mean?

In network providers are healthcare professionals who work with an insurance company and agree to take the amount the insurance company is willing to pay for a service. When you choose an in network provider, you're saving money. Blue Cross Blue Shield works with thousands of behavioral healthcare providers around the country to provide Blue Cross Blue Shield substance abuse coverage to people who want to begin the process of recovery.

When you're beginning the process of learning more about different types of treatment (including drug and alcohol detox, outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, and residential care), it's important to also consider whether the facilities you're considering are within your Blue Cross Blue Shield network. Blue Cross Blue Shield carefully screens the companies they partner with to become in-network providers.

To learn whether the addiction treatment facilities you're considering are included in your network, you can talk to the facility directly, and they can let you know whether they're an in-network provider. You can also call the number on your insurance card to connect with your insurance company and learn whether the facilities you're considering are considered in-network providers. Your insurance company can also talk with you about in-nework providers in your area.

Residential & Detox

Choosing the level of treatment that's the best fit for your needs is an important first step in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. If you're already in counseling, talking with your therapist can offer insight into what level of treatment makes the most sense for your needs.

Levels of drug and alcohol treatment include:

  • Drug and alcohol detox: Most people need to go through drug and alcohol detox before beginning the substance abuse rehab process. During detox, you'll have around-the-clock support to ensure that you're getting the medical care that you need to allow drugs and alcohol to leave your body safely. It's important that you go through the detox process under the care of a qualified medical professional. Withdrawal from certain drugs (including alcohol and benzodiazepines) can be deadly, and it's key that you're under professional care to ensure your safety. Your treatment team may prescribe medication that can help you deal with the physical and mental aspects of the withdrawal process. Detox usually takes a few days. At the end of the process, you'll be mentally and physically ready to begin your drug and alcohol rehab treatment.
  • Outpatient treatment: Outpatient treatment allows you to get drug and alcohol rehab care in the same amount of time that you would need to attend a doctor's appointment. You may go to outpatient rehab a few times each week, allowing you to keep up with your work or school schedule while you begin your journey to sobriety. Some people struggle with standard outpatient treatment, as it can be hard to stick to the plan to get well when you're constantly surrounded by the triggers that encourage you to abuse drugs and alcohol. For many people who are living with substance use disorder, it's helpful to get treatment in a more intensive environment where you'll have more constant support.
  • Intensive outpatient treatment and partial hospitalization programs: These programs are more intense than standard outpatient treatment, but still allow you to go home at the end of the day. Intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs last for most of the day, where you'll go through therapy and counseling that can help you develop the coping skills that you need to manage the stressors of life that have led you to use drugs and alcohol in the past. This type of treatment can be a good fit for people who want more intense treatment but are unable to attend a residential program due to work or family responsibilities.
  • Residential treatment: For many people, residential treatment is the best way to get a fresh start and begin sobriety with a clear mind. During residential treatment, you'll live at the treatment facility. You'll have access to around-the-clock care from caring professionals, and you'll have the time you need away from triggers to develop new coping strategies that will help you stay clean once you return to your daily life. You'll likely have the chance to try several different therapies while you're in residential treatment, including group therapy, art or music therapy, and more. When you arrive at residential therapy, be sure to talk with your counselor about any types of therapy that have been helpful for you in the past so that you can talk about the possibility of integrating those modalities of treatment into your new treatment plan.

Choosing the highest level of treatment that makes sense for you can increase your chances of staying sober long-term. When you choose a level of treatment that allows you to fully immerse yourself in rehab, you're providing yourself with the chance to reset, get away from your stressors, and develop the coping strategies that you need to stay well in your day-to-day life after you finish your treatment. At Chapman House, we're proud to work with you to provide you with the level of care that makes sense for your treatment needs.

Does Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Cover Rehab Services?

Yes, Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance covers rehab services. Thankfully, insurance companies now recognize substance use disorder as a disease, not a matter of personal choice. This means that you qualify for Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance coverage for rehab if you are a member of their insurance company and have purchased one of their insurance plans (or have access to one of their plans through your workplace insurance program).

At Chapman House, we understand that figuring out how to pay for your inpatient or outpatient treatment is an important part of determining how to move forward with your sobriety. Understanding what insurance plans cover is important when figuring out your out-of-pocket cost for various types of treatment. You may have a deductible that you need to hit before your treatment is covered, or you may need to pay a co-pay when you arrive for treatment.

You'll want to verify your insurance before you choose a treatment facility. There are several ways that you can verify your insurance. Feel free to reach out to Chapman House directly and we'll walk you through the insurance verification process. You can also reach out to your insurance company directly by calling the number on your insurance card, or explore your insurance company's website to learn more about what your Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance covers.

If you're unsure of where to find the right level of care that makes sense with your health benefits, don't hesitate to reach out to your insurance company directly. They'll be able to direct you to the detox or rehab facility that's the right level of care for your needs and covered by your insurance plan.

Co-Occurring/Dual Diagnosis and Mental Health Treatment

Many people who are living with substance abuse disorder are also living with mental health issues and are in need of Blue Cross Blue Shield addiction treatment and mental health services. People who are living with both a mental health issue and an addiction problem are known as dual diagnosis clients and need specialized care to manage both disorders in a way that positively affects mental health.

If you have a mental health condition in addition to substance use disorder, it's important that you choose a facility that's fully equipped to handle your needs. When you choose a dual diagnosis treatment facility, you'll have access to professionals who will be able to help you with both your substance abuse recovery and your mental health needs. They'll work with you to help you develop the coping strategies that you need to stay strong against stressors when you return to day-to-day life, increasing the likelihood that you'll be able to maintain your sobriety after you leave your treatment facility.

Many people who are living with both a mental health issue and a substance abuse issue take medication to support their mental health. It's important that you talk with your rehab facility about any medication that you're currently taking to support your mental health. Your treatment team will work with you to determine whether your medications are conducive to your sobriety, and they may adjust your medications to ensure that you're getting the best shot possible at staying well long-term.

It's important that you know whether your insurance covers the facility you're considering for drug and alcohol treatment. Verifying your insurance coverage is often the first step in moving forward with drug and alcohol rehab. Even if you've checked your insurance coverage in the past, it's important to do so again, as your coverage can change over time.

When you choose a provider, they'll work with you to take care of the insurance end of your treatment process. Calling your treatment center in advance of your arrival and providing your insurance information will help you rest assured that the insurance aspect of your treatment is taken care of, allowing you to fully focus on getting well, one day at a time.

It's smart to talk with your insurance company and your rehab facility about any out-of-pocket costs that you can expect from the treatment process. Talking with friends and family about supporting you by helping with out-of-pocket costs can help to ease your mind about any bills that you'll face after you finish the rehab process.
